Lowered illumination during the
rest cycle cast the corridors of Moya into deeper shades of caramel, gold
and black. It wasn't much darker to the Nebari's vision, merely softer.
Chiana preferred to wander Moya during these arns, avoiding areas most
frequented by whomever wasn't on watch. When, of course, she wasn't on
watch herself. She preferred these arns to volunteer for watch. Aeryn
had drawn lots for the chore this rest cycle, however, so Chiana finally
found herself with time on her hands and dark, empty sleeping quarters.
Fortunately she'd found a curiosity on the last commerce stop. It was
just laying around, so she'd picked it up. It looked like some sort of
child's game, she figured; just a set of fabric strands with pieces of
something in the middle of them. It looked like the pieces were mildly
attracted to one another; if one twirled and pulled the strands just right,
the pieces looked to make a round disc when fitted together. Even fingers
skilled at the most exacting lock picking were struggling to manage this
puzzle, without success. |
|
| Of course this game was probably
made for the immature inhabitants of that commerce planet, with their
additional digits, four arms and blurring high speed, but she didn't see
why she couldn't do it. The game was proving frustrating, but at the moment
it was refreshingly pleasant to wander the quiet, muted corridors and
dedicate some more arns to this finger puzzle.
Solitude didn't prove complete. Aeryn was exiting a corridor with some
equipment on her shoulder. Aeryn often spent arns with Pilot, but Pilot
would want some relative solitude himself before long. Evidently Aeryn
couldn't just stare at some boring readouts or a blank view screen all
rest cycle, but had to take up some light repairs. Chiana managed a smirk
to think of all the repair skills she gained by having the same restlessness. |

Aeryn looked at the game Chiana
was still working at with her fingers. Aeryn slightly furrowed her brow
but decided to dismiss the curiosity. "That philosophy would have
quickly made you a dead PeaceKeeper."
"But then I wouldn't have been me."
"Of course you would be; who else would you be?" Aeryn smiled,
straightening the equipment on her shoulder and shaking her head slightly.
"Even I have to admit I was me when I was serving as PeaceKeeper."
"Were you?" Chiana smirks subtly, keeping her focus on the
puzzle and continuing on her way.
Aeryn's brow furrows slightly and she blinks a couple of times a bit
confounded. "Was I?" she asks the silent corridor, keeping her
focus on the puzzle and continuing on her way.
